Alternative Firing
Alternative firing refers to a range of techniques where pottery interacts with combustible organic and inorganic materials when still hot. These techniques leave interesting marks due to the interaction of clay, fire and smoke with the combustible materials. The pots are not fired to a high enough temperature and hence are still porous. My pots are made with clay and glazes (where used) that I mix in my studio using standard ceramic materials.
